I would say it can happen for a wise man. There are many cases when people under a lot of stress during a disease, have a spiritual awakening before and after the healing. The awakening happens not because suffering, as many may suggest, but because of a new understanding that derives from the whole process. When we are sick and get well, we come to realize what is really important, and with that a connection with the source is being repaired. And yes, I said repaired and not made, because that connection is always there, it is just we are too broken to realize.
Once we reconnect, it is a small step to change the path and come to our senses.
