There are many unknowns in everyone’s evolution, but for certain, we can say that it is up to the individual soul to want a spiritual life.
Some of us may need more lives to get to that understanding, some are being affected by too many lives and too much bad karma created, and others may have just planned before descending on earth to practice a spiritual life. That could be the case of someone growing up with the monks, for instance.
What all the people who want to live a spiritual life have in common is remembrance. As we may know, we forget our origins when we are born into a life on earth. However, that amnesia is not permanent, and the ones who want to remember, the curious ones, will end up on the path of enlightenment, which is living a spiritual life. It is not easy, while we live in a western society where all values are material, but that is its beauty of it. That is the test many of us talk about in different religions.
What makes people not want a spiritual life is ignorance and egocentrism. I have heard people saying meditation may be good, but I have no time for it now, maybe when my son is in college. Or others who are certain that is nothing more than this material life, and they must make as much money as possible or become someone important in society and so on. All of it makes us tools and human resources and not the human beings we were supposed to be. Looking at what I said about being a tool and trying to do something different may sparkle the need to know more and ask God. God will always answer.
